Physical and Spiritual Fitness

To continue where we started the year we are talking about how Christian Dads have to maintain their physical and spiritual fitness levels. It is not something that can only be looked at every once in awhile it is something that must continually be maintained. I shared with you in our last encounter about my goals for the year. Let’s discuss where I have gotten so far in my journey for fitness.

Physical Fitness

I mentioned to you guys already that I will be participating in two races in February. They are back to back so the amount of training that I have to do in order to be fit enough to complete both races is very extensive. Now these are not ordinary races, they are Spartan races. Spartan Races are obstacle races that test you at every level of your endurance. You have to be ready for everything that they can throw at you. This is important because no 2 races are the same. Even when you do the same race the next year it will not be the same race that you ran the year before. Today I got in 5 miles of Cardio and I did a strength workout in the gym. It is very tiring at times but I have a goal that I have set for myself and the only way that I am going to be able to meet my goal is if I prepare for what is to come at the end of next month. We as Fathers have to be fit if we are going to be able to do the fun things with our children. If we want to be able to still run around and play ball with our Grandchildren. The work that we do now when it comes to our physical fitness sets us up for our future. Preparation is the key.

Spiritual Fitness

I have started my second goal as well. I mentioned the book that I have started to read and will probably be complete with it by the time we are to speak again through this blog. When I am done reading the book I will be sure to give a quick synopsis on what I feel like I have learned from this book and let you know what book I will be reading next. As this blog post was written I have not been given any suggestions from you the reader and I would love to get to know more about your spiritual fitness journey by reading books that God has blessed you with. 50 books may seem like a lot of books to some but I fill that with sacrifice and God on my side that it can be done.

My church is currently doing a fast for the next 14 days. While I am fasting and going through my journey with these goals drop some prayer request so that I may pray for the things that you are going through in your life.

A Christian Dad on a Whole New Level!

I had to take a personal break from writing and communicating through my blog. It was hard for me because I had set up Calendar reminders to tell me when to write. I had to take a break because I had lost focus. I don’t feel that I was meeting the intent of what I had originally sought out to meet. Now that we are in a new year I want to bring forth a new focus to the blog. I want to talk to you from a fitness prospective. Now I’m not talking about just physical fitness but spiritual fitness as well. Our families now when we are fit and they know when we are not. So to begin this year I am going to share with you some goals that I plan to complete between now and the end of the year. These goals have spiritual aspiration and physical aspiration. I pray that as you read through what my two main goals are that you will be able to help me complete them as well as join in on the journey of Fitness with me.

My first goal is to read 50 books this year. This is a very attainable task but in order for them to count they have to be Christian/ ministry based. They also can not be assigned by any school that I attend just in case I find myself starting my Masters degree this year. I have already started one it is entitled Being A Disciple: Counting the Real Cost it is written by Kay Arthur, Tom and Jane Hart. It is more of a book set up for a small group bible study but I realize in order to find good text to teach your small groups from you have to first read the lesson yourself. With this goal I would like for you guys to help by recommending books that you think will help me in ministry. In my endeavor to read 50 Christian Books this year I will surely get to them all and if not this year next year I will continue the quest of knowledge and spiritual fitness.

My next goal is for physical fitness. I would not consider myself the most fit person in the world but I am decently fit. I plan to participate this year In three Spartan Races I am already signed up for 2 of them and will sign up for the third after I complete the first ones. I have started a training plan that should help me to be in well enough shape to complete the races respectably. I would like for you as my followers to support me by being encouraging and just sending words of encouragement as I share with you my suck sessions of workouts. To begin the year I did an 8 mile ruck march and did 10 squats every quarter mile for a total of 320 squats. It was a good start to the year and it was very taxing on my body so I know that I have a lot of work to do if I’m going to be in shape enough to complete two races in one weekend.

The Workout map

With proper nutrition and prayer while I workout I feel that my body will be in tip top shape for my upcoming goals. I know that God is preparing me for something great and the only way that I will be able to complete what he has in store is if I go into a time of preparation. I pray that everyone who reads this leaves me a book to read and a prayer to get me through the physical test that God is going to put me through this year.

Day of Thanksgiving

It has been 23 days since I have last written in my blog. I have been out of sorts on what to really say. I have been asking God how I should speak to you his people and instead of forcing something I stayed silent. I allowed God to personally speak to me and give me what he wanted me to say to his people. He had me absent from my audience with the risk of losing the following that I have taken on but knowing that God has the final say on what happens with his messengers. God has allowed me time and given me a word to speak to you on this Thanksgiving evening. He has wanted me to let his people know that there are so many things that we have to be thankful for this year. Even though things may not have seemed like they were going towards our best interest God still had and has a plan for each and everyone of us.

This year has been different in so many different ways than years in the past. The world has experienced a global pandemic, people have lost loved ones to this sickness, and people have lost their jobs and their simple way of life. Through all of this God has given us something to be especially thankful for. If you are reading this then you have endured. You have made through all of these different trails and tribulations of this year and you are still pushing to the end. Yes, the world has been in somewhat of turmoil but you can stand tall and say that you are making it day by day with the grace of God. Yes, you may have lost your job or a loved one but your life has been spared. The job that you lost may have opened a door that you would not have otherwise sought after if it wasn’t for the pandemic. I have met many people who have been able to finish schools and get additional credentials because of the extra time that they have had on their hands.

Most importantly during this time of turmoil our faith has increased. If you are alive still to read this you have gotten a deeper relationship in God. Like I mentioned earlier God has shown us how to endure. He has retaught us that we must trust in the Lord with all of our hearts and lean not on our own understand. That in all our ways we must acknowledge our father and he will direct our path. It is amazing how much our lives have changed but God has been with us every step of the way.

My brothers and sisters as you read this I pray that you continue to Trust God from this point on. That you allow God to use you in away that you have never been used before. God has plans for you that is why he has spared your life thus far. Walk in those plans that God has placed at your feet. Continue to endure through the trails and tribulations that you are faced with everyday. God loves you and so do I.

Voting In 2020

It has been almost a week since I wrote my last blog. We are now a few hours away from finding out who the next elected officials of the United States will be. This is a trying time for believers and non believers alike. At this time I am sitting in a hotel because I am away for work and looking at the news and all I see are things about the election. Through social media you see people talking about how they want their choice to be elected and various threats about what will happen depending on the election results. Now more than ever we need Christian Men. We need men who are willing to stand in the gap for our country no matter if their chosen candidate is elected or not.

The Bible tells us that we must pray for the people that are placed over us. There are going to be times when we don’t agree with everything our leaders choose to do but that does not stop us from praying for them. Like I mentioned early I am away for work and sadly every time I am away for a long period of time I seem to get to a point where things cause me to act out of character. I realize right away that I am acting out but it sort of creeps up on me without me knowing until it’s too late. This time since I am aware of my mistakes I have been seeking the Lord daily to get him to keep me on the right path to not let my emotions and anger get the best of me.

If you have read this far you are probably wondering what does this have to do with voting and the things plaguing our communities daily. It has everything to do with knowing how close you are to your breaking point when it comes to social injustices and what you are going to do about it. For me I have to learn to lead off with prayer. I cant wait for things to happen around me and start to pray I have to get out there and pray in advance. This is hitting close to home when one of my children posted on their social media outlet today for her friends to be careful after this election because there are people threatening to be violent depending on the results. They are threatening riots and protest and all types of things and she is afraid. As a father when my child is worried about something I feel the urge to make things right. Let’s say a special prayer tonight that no matter what happens God is in control of everything. Seek the Lord in all that you do and you will always be in perfect peace.

Dads Are We Voting In This Election?

With an election in the United States looming and with so many things on the agenda this year are we as Christians supposed to vote in the upcoming election? Is it important for us to let our voices be heard through the voting process or should we just pray and let God have control over the situation. I have an eclectic amount of people on my social media platforms and I follow all of the candidates in my local area as well as the candidates on a national stage. I do that because now more than ever the social media presence of politicians is where you can almost get most of the information that you need to know about them. In this time period we have politicians like AOC and Donald Trump who live their entire lives on social media platforms you can learn a lot just by scrolling down your news feed. Again I don’t think it my place to tell you who to vote for but I would be remised if I did not take the time to spotlight the fact that I think voting is very important.

The Bible does not specifically speak about if we should or shouldn’t vote because the way that we vote today was not a thing back then. However it does speak about what happens if we have bad leaders in power. Proverbs 29:2 reads “When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.” I have seen people from each side of the coin mourn when the person that they have chosen for office does not win. But looking at it from a Godly eye we have to understand that no matter who is elected God will take care of his children. He will look after the children of his that are still seeking his face and that are trusting in him. I believe that God has mandated certain things to happen and even when it seems like this are going wrong God will still get the glory out of what we have coming next.

My challenge for whomever reads this blog this week is to vote. Get out there and make a difference. If you know of someone in your neighborhood that has the desire to vote but they don’t have a ride to the polls take them with you when you go and vote. Make a difference in the community that God has planted you in. Be that light that shines for all to see. I love you God bless.

Same Sex Marriage OK?

I want to start this blog first stating everything that the Pope said is not my belief and I do not agree with the overall message that is being stated here. Just, hear me out and maybe we can come to a point of discussion and conversation. I do not agree with same sex marriage it is not something that I would just go out and do. However I say that knowing that there are other things in my opinion that are just as bad and I wouldn’t go out and do them either and that is what I am about to talk about today.

Same sex marriage across the world has become very prevalent in the 21st Century. Now more than ever you see it happening and there are some that feel like it is the greatest thing that has ever happened and some think it is the worse. I for one am indifferent to the whole thing completely and here is why. I have made a stand and that stand is I don’t agree. Just like I don’t agree with the other sins that are openly acceptable within the Christian faith. Most Christians will say that they don’t agree with these other sins as well but I beg to differ because they are happening every day and these people are not getting ran out of the church like homosexuals are. It has become socially acceptable to have sex before marriage, to cohabitate with the opposite sex, to have multiple sexual partners, to drink unto drunkenness, to get married multiple times, to have children out of wedlock and the list goes on and on. I say that and I have committed some of the sins that are listed here but I was never shunned, I was never looked down upon, when I was ready to stop doing those things it was ok and the entire time I was messing up doing what I was doing I was still in the church. Where my problem comes out is that people run to the fact that their friend told them the Bible says that being gay is an abomination unto God and if you were to ask the average Christian they couldn’t tell you where that verse even is in the Bible. It actually says it twice in the Book of Leviticus but not even in the terms that we would use them today the verses say:

“Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭18:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.”
‭‭Leviticus‬ ‭20:13‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This was Old Testament law. The Old Testament has a lot of laws that we no longer decide to follow but this one speaks and says an abomination in it and people have a frenzy when people decide to live that way. Remember I am not condoning it what so ever. This is what I am condoning though, if we are going to as Christian’s show attention to the people who are gay and deciding to sin lets do the same thing to the people who are openly committing the sins that we spoke of earlier. Let’s do that because in churches today heterosexual sin is committed and they are singing in the choir the next day, or even a couple of hours after they are finished. Or even Preaching from the pulpit. Let’s hold everyone to the same standard of sin.

A lot of people would think that it wasn’t fair when we asked the mother of four all out of wedlock to sit down from the choir or the pastor that has 3 kids and has never been married that he can no longer preach at church any more. People would have a fit and they would be what about Grace. Can’t God forgive me for my mistakes? This would not happen because we live in a society that the only thing that is considered a sin are things that mainstream doesn’t see as a problem.

Here is my solution. Let’s preach that all sin is sin. That all people need to repent from said sins and while people are still struggling through the sin that they are in lets love them the same way that we would want to be loved. That is what hit home for me reading the quote that Pope Francis said he said “Homosexual people have the right to be in a family. They are children of God.” I read that and it burned a hole in my heart because I thought of friends of mine and people that I know that have been kicked out of their homes. That have been called all types of names and been denied so much because of this particular sin because they are open about it. While they know that sister Sarah was at the club last night and got drunk and went home with a man and is singing in the choir the next day. It is a double standard and it is wrong.

My stand is to stand on love. Love all people no matter if they decide to turn from their sin or not. People did Jesus wrong before he went on the cross and after he was up on the cross yet he still made the choice to stay their and die for the SINS of The WHOLE WORLD. Not just a few of us but EVERYBODY. That means the gay people to. I love you guys

How does Sex Affect Your Marriage

For a very long time in my relationship with my wife I allowed this very small word to define how I felt and how things went within my relationship. It caused some very bad things to go on within our relationship that probably would have never happened if I had just grown up a little and paid more attention to the actual relationship that I was in. I feel that I have gotten a lot better with this in some aspects but there are still times that I struggle with my feelings when it comes to this. So that’s when it goes back to the original question of the day; How does sex affect your marriage?

For me it has affected my marriage negatively and positively. It really depended for me if I was getting some or not. Most times if I was getting it then it was positive but if I wasn’t then things went negatively. Honestly looking over the situation from my perspective as I am writing this I was being very selfish. I was placing my needs and desires over the things that my wife was telling me where going on with her. My thoughts were simple if I wanted sex then I needed to get it no matter what was going on with my wife that day. Ask yourself is that really fair. When these things went on if I didn’t get what I wanted I would treat my wife a lot of times like she was scum again something that is not fair at all to her. But then when it came to me receiving what I was looking for I was ok to be around till I wanted sex again and then I was a pain.

What I have learned from these experiences are simple looking back on it now but tough while I was going through it. Life can be great sexually and emotionally if you and your partner are both on the same page. The love that you show your spouse does not have to just be sexual. The relationship comes with emotions, it comes with communication, and it definitely comes with understanding all of those things about the other person. Should sex affect your marriage absolutely, by no means am I saying that it shouldn’t what I am saying is that we have to pay attention to how we let it affect our marriage and relationships. As fathers and husbands the way that we treat our wife even in the bad times is very important. It is what we show our children the way that marriage is supposed to be. There are things that have happened in my marriage that I regret but I never for a moment regret the fact that I have gotten married.

Move Into The Neighborhood

The last blog I wrote; I wrote about knowing those who labour among you. Today I am going to be writing along the same vain but on a more personal tip. God had placed it on my heart to do ministry unconventionally from the normal brick and mortar church. Three years ago I made a challenge to myself to help the people in my community in a way that I did not see happening already. That is where this Coat Drive was born. God wanted me to be able to give a labor of Love to people that could not only be seen or heard but that was tangible. I listened to what God has asked me to do and the Coat Drive has grown more and more every year. Through this drive God has blessed me to be able to show his love to people that were homeless, people whose houses had burned down, people that were just down on their luck. God is truly making it work for all types of people.

I have really taken to heart what the scripture says in the Book of John. I want to show you two different translation but the word in them both drives me to do the work that God has called me to do and I pray that through you reading this it will do the same for you. In the Message Bible the verse says

“The Word became flesh and blood, and moved into the neighborhood. We saw the glory with our own eyes, the one-of-a-kind glory, like Father, like Son, Generous inside and out, true from start to finish.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭MSG‬‬

Where the King James says

“And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”
‭‭John‬ ‭1:14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Both versions of the scripture says something important to me. That Jesus came on this earth not just to speak to the people from the Temple, but to dwell with them to move into their neighborhood. He came and met the people where they were and didn’t tell them that they had to make a change in order for them to see him. However the change in the people who were living in sin happened because they were able to see Jesus just the way that they were.

God allowing me to do this Coat Drive is a way that he has allowed me to move into the neighborhood of so many people who need the love of God but also need their physical needs met as well. I am working on making this Coat Drive larger than it has ever been before. God is allowing it to touch people that have never been able to help me before. I am enjoying the work that God is doing in the lives of his people. I also want to challenge those who read this to find something that you can do in the neighborhoods that God has placed you in. If you need help getting started let me know and I will support you in your endeavor to “Move Into The Neighborhood!

Know The Ones Who Labor Among You.

I came across them Image that I had posted onto Facebook today. I posted it about 3 years ago and I couldn’t remember the context in which it was posted. I hadn’t left any description with it or anything. That brought me to realize that I had gone through a period in life where I posted things trying to be close to God and was really just jumping over peoples head. I was expecting them to take interest in the picture just because I posted it. Yes there are people out there who might have taken a look at this image and looked up the scripture for the context but I feel they would have been disappointed. I went back today and read the scriptures in the photo and I don’t see the correlation.

However there is some really good text that is associated with those verses something that I could have just shared with people without just posting a frivolous picture. The text says

“Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing.”
‭‭1 Thessalonians‬ ‭5:14-17‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Paul is giving some very good teaching in the farewell to the people of Thessaloniki. But instead of sharing the words I shared a picture. I could have pulled out verse 16 its simple two words “Rejoice Evermore” or verse 17 “Pray Without Ceasing” ; but I missed that opportunity. Since I missed that opportunity to share some important points in Gods word I even missed something that Paul stated in the very beginning of this section he said in verse 12 “And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you”.

That is why I chose that verse to title the blog for today. We have to know who labors with you. You may ask why is this important. I feel that it is important because if you understand the people that God has placed around you; you will better understand how to minister to them. That is the same with our families. If we understand more about them then the better off we will be when it comes to reaching them. I wonder how many people I have missed because I did not understand the people who I have labored with.

Who are you Laboring with? How can they help them? How can you help them? Answer those questions and go out and do those things and make a difference in the lives of many.

Football and Christians

More of a relaxed piece on today. Tell me what you think about Christian Dads and watching football. I know that some people will take my picture as offensive to who God is but it is just a picture to me. Let’s communicate I going to put a poll on social media and here on this blog about Christians and Football. Tell me your favorite teams. Tell me how you feel that you can use football to increase your ministry.

I am a Carolina Panthers Football fan. I love the team when they do bad and especially when they are doing well. I don’t feel like anything is wrong with being a football fan as long as like anything else you don’t allow it to take over your life. I can even see it being able to make a difference in the ministry. I have some Christian Brothers that I talk with and joke about football all of the time. Especially with my friends who are Dallas Cowboy fans they really getting a lot of ribbing. God is able to affect ministry through many venues if you are willing to tap into the opening.

Yours In Christ,
