FAITH

Faith

Today we will be talking about the next Fruit of The Spirit. This Fruit characteristic is faith. Why is this so important to have as a characteristic well because without it it is impossible to please God. (Hebrews 11:6) Faith is something that we all need in order to become better fathers, better Christians, better husbands, just down right better people in general.

I like to use this as my example for faith. I had faith that God will give me a house. I prayed and asked for God to give me one. Not only did it happen but it happened because I had faith that it would happen. However God had to show me that faith through prayer alone would not do what I was asking it was going to take more than that. It was going to take me putting my faith in to action. I had to realize just like the rest of the characteristic of the Fruit of The Spirit it takes action. I had to put my faith into motion and go out and trust that God was going to lead me to the right places and right organizations to purchase my house through. The faith that we need is definitely expressed in Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen”. We as men have to be prepared to tap into our faith. Scripture tells us that we just need a small amount of faith the size of a mustard seed and we will be able to move mountains.

So after you read this article on faith I want you to pray about how your faith can be increased. Once you have found what it will take to increase your faith do the work that it will take for it to happen in your life and start right away.

Gentleness

Gentleness

Today in our talks about the Fruit of The Spirit we will be talking about characteristic number 5. This characteristic is gentleness in the King James Version of the Bible however in other translations it is described as kindness or meekness. This is very interesting because the 8th characteristic is meekness and sometimes translated as gentleness. What makes this interesting and I had to do some digging in order for it to make sense is that they are indeed similar but with a different meaning nonetheless. I will not go to much in detail because in three more post we will be digging into meekness.

When discussing the characteristic of Gentleness we have to understand that Gentleness is an action; that is the difference. When you want to be gentle to someone you have to make an effort. It is not something that sort of just happens. While I was doing this study I ran across this analogy of an elephant who has about 40,000 muscles just in its trunk alone. With that trunk it is strong enough to pull down large tree branches but also gentle and delicate enough to pick up a blade of grass. The elephant has to make an effort to be gentle just as he has to make an effort to be strong.

Let’s now take it to us as fathers. When you are dealing with your children in a situation that would make you upset you have to make an effort to be gentle or to go off the handle. A few weeks back my youngest two children and I were coming into the house. While we were coming inside my youngest child had my cellphone that we had just purchased in March. She accidentally drops the phone face down on the porch and breaks the screen in multiple places. Instantly I get upset but I catch myself and handle the situation in a better way. I had to make an effort to be gentle with her instead of screaming at her. Which my older children had they been there would have probably completely expected me to scream. The moral is God has asked us to be gentle. He expects us to make the effort when things are not going the way that we think they should to choose gentleness over anger. I pray that whomever reads this will take a stand towards being more gentle.

LONGSUFFERING

Longsuffering/Patience

We are now at the forth Fruit of The Spirit. To me the text seems to come to somewhat of a change of course when it gets to where we are now. The three prior to this one seemed to be more happy characteristics of the Spirit but now we are at one that takes more dedication. We are at the characteristic of “LONGSUFFERING”. In the King James Version of the Bible it is translated this way in most other translations it is simply spoken as patience. I personally don’t feel like patience gives this characteristic its full justice. I think when you use patience you are lessening the characteristic that must be built here. Let me explain why.

Longsuffering here in the text better translated from the Greek means slow tempered or slow to get angry. When I think patience I think about just waiting for something to happen or someone to give something to me. Like I patiently wait for my birthday. When I hear Longsuffering it is different in the sense that I may have to suffer through things that are not pleasant until God finds it pleasing to pull me out of it. It takes more out of you to be slow to anger than it does to just be patient.

Let’s take it to something that men can deal with and understanding Sports. Football season has just started and many of us have been waiting with anticipation for the new season to begin. However, we did not have to seek the face of God daily so that we would have the ability to make it through that endeavor to me that’s patience. On the other hand we are at work and we have this co-worker who just knows how to push all of your buttons. To the point that you sometimes get to the point where you just want to quit. Or you are truly at the point where you have to seek the face of God in order for you to be able to maintain your composure in your work environment; that is longsuffering.

Fathers this is a tough one even for me at times. I have had moments in my marriage and in my raising of my children that I have felt like I am in some longsuffering moments. Moments where I have to seek God and ask him how I am going to make it through this situation with my child. God has put this here in the text for a reason. He wants us to know that even though you may have love, joy and peace you have to have longsuffering to get to the otherside of your spiritual journey. There are going to be trails and tribulations that are going to come up in your life and its going to take every bit of your being to make it through it.

God has placed it in my Spirit to pray as I write this. Everyone who makes it to this point in the article will receive this special blessing. Lord I ask that whomever reads this writing will be granted the ability to be slow to anger. That they will accept the Characteristic of longsuffering so that they will be stronger Christians. That through this walk with Christ even though at times things get tough but you God have placed something special in them that will give them the ability to make it through those tough times. In Jesus Name I Pray Amen.

PEACE

Let’s Talk Peace

In our talks about the different Fruits of The Spirit we have traversed through two and now we are on the third and that is Peace. When it comes to peace it was one that took a hold of me in a special way. This word like the others that we have talked about so far love and joy can have multiple meanings depending on how it is used but lets dig in.

Peace as a word is very important to me because it brings back memories from my childhood. I was a child that use to cry about everything and I mean everything; which is weird because you can’t pay me to cry now. The point though is on my mother’s mom’s side of the family at any funeral that we would attend they would always sing the Hymn “It Is Well” and before they would get to the word Peace in the song I would be in tears like crazy. It however is my mother’s favorite hymn I think to date. For me though I can listen to the same song today and it gives me just what the song says in the first line. It gives me Peace like a river. I have grown to love the song and how it has such a calming effect on things that are going on all around me.

The word Peace also brings me to the verse in Numbers 6:26 that states “The Lord lift up his countenance on you, and give you peace.” I have learned even through this verse that the Lord God we serve has the ability to bring us Peace. We have to have Peace within our lives in order for us to pull all of the other Fruits of The Spirit together. Peace is so important to me I don’t think I could live my life without it. Our homes must have Peace in order for them to function properly.

Fathers what I mean by our homes have to have peace in order for them to function is simple in theory. Without that peace within our homes there would be constant fighting and upheaval at home. When that is introduced instead of peace then we are losing the love and joy from our homes that we have already began to add. Peace allows us to be able to keep the things that have already grounded us into good Christians. We have to have the peace in our lives and on that note I must say PEACE!!!

JOY

Fruit of The Spirit Joy

On today we will talk about the next Fruit of the Spirit. That characteristic for today is Joy. Joy is something that we all want to fill in our lives. We all want a life filled with joy we just don’t know how to get the joy that we are looking for. To give some background on the word joy from our text it is from the Greek word “Chara” it is Strongs #5479. This word was used to express “extended favor”. So how can this help us today?

Like I mentioned before we are all striving for joy. In the book of John we are told that through Love we are able to find joy. “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:10-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
So if we can get love in our heart then joy will remain in each and everyone of us. But with Joy things can get so much better.

So I know that someone is probably thinking how can I truly get joy if I am living in so much sin? What’s wonderful about the Word that we read is that before the Fruit of Spirit existed we have words that David wrote in Psalms 51.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:10-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
What this means is that if we have found ourselves in a world of sin we must ask God for forgiveness and he will us joy. Repentance will lead us to our Joy.

Fathers here is how it can help each and everyone of us with repentance we can find joy. With love we can find joy. The Joy that we have within us has the ability to be so great that it can change the way that we live our lives. Let’s Remember to live our lives with Joy involved.

LOVE

LOVE

The Fruit of the Spirit that we are going to talk about today is LOVE. I feel like I have been beating this topic to death. I feel this way because the more I dig into scripture the more it is brought to my attention that this is the same love word used in the book of Deuteronomy. I have written about it in my previous articles about the SHEMA. Now we will go into this love word with a little bit more detail. The word in the original Hebrew language is “Ahavah” Strongs Hebrew 160. It is “Agape” in the Greek Strong Greek 26. These words of Love are important in how we live our lives. We have to be able to show love to God as well as our neighbor.

So Christian Fathers what does this have to do with us. How are we supposed to love both God and our neighbor? Are we supposed to love them equally or are we supposed to love one more than the other. If we look at the Great Commandment in Matthew 22:37-39 it is later explained that they are one in the same. We can not love God without loving our neighbor. If we are failing to love our neighbor or our fellow man then we are failing to love God. We as men have a special responsibility when it comes to love. Love is so important that it is expressed over 200 times in the Bible. It is so important that it is something that God thought it important enough to have us use it to describe so many things that we do.

We have to understand like it was explained in the web videos from the Bible Project that we cannot love “pizza and our wives the same” for if we did then our wife would probably be offended and you would end up on the couch. Yet, for most people pizza is still held in high esteem. I have an even better one for you the love of your wife or football. Many times we get in trouble because we place football over our wives. With the new NFL season starting on tonight many fathers are going to have to choose which love is greater or make a compromise. That is the same place we are when it comes to God. However this is no compromise God has to be our number one love. All the things that we do should point back to the love that we have for God.

For me even when it comes back to me writing this blog it’s shold point back to Christ in all that I do. So back to The Fruits of the Spirit, Love is the first fruit that Paul decides to list in the text because to me that character trait is one that is most important. When you have love you are able to build and truly get to the other Fruits of the Spirit. So fathers explain to me how you feel that love effects you in your every day life. Fathers is love strengthening or hindering your ministry? Is love the core of all of your relationships? On these next couple of days where ever you read this article lets dialogue about LoVE.

Fruits of The Spirit

Fruits of The Spirit! Galatians 5:22-23

Since I have been doing my blog I came across a young woman doing a blog about the Fruits of The Spirit that can be found in the book of Galatians. Let’s check out what it says:

“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

For the next few blog post we will take out time to extensively dive into the Fruits of the Spirit. I want to reach men in a way that they can understand that they have the ability to live with these very important characteristics. So from a father, husband, and just a regular Christian man we will look at what God is telling us through the Apostle Paul about what fruit we should bear. I want everyone that reads this blog to tell all your male friends to start tuning in to find out what God has for them in this season.

So for the next nine blogs join me as I talk with you guys on what God has dealt with me about the Fruits of The Spirits!
