Physical and Spiritual Fitness

To continue where we started the year we are talking about how Christian Dads have to maintain their physical and spiritual fitness levels. It is not something that can only be looked at every once in awhile it is something that must continually be maintained. I shared with you in our last encounter about my goals for the year. Let’s discuss where I have gotten so far in my journey for fitness.

Physical Fitness

I mentioned to you guys already that I will be participating in two races in February. They are back to back so the amount of training that I have to do in order to be fit enough to complete both races is very extensive. Now these are not ordinary races, they are Spartan races. Spartan Races are obstacle races that test you at every level of your endurance. You have to be ready for everything that they can throw at you. This is important because no 2 races are the same. Even when you do the same race the next year it will not be the same race that you ran the year before. Today I got in 5 miles of Cardio and I did a strength workout in the gym. It is very tiring at times but I have a goal that I have set for myself and the only way that I am going to be able to meet my goal is if I prepare for what is to come at the end of next month. We as Fathers have to be fit if we are going to be able to do the fun things with our children. If we want to be able to still run around and play ball with our Grandchildren. The work that we do now when it comes to our physical fitness sets us up for our future. Preparation is the key.

Spiritual Fitness

I have started my second goal as well. I mentioned the book that I have started to read and will probably be complete with it by the time we are to speak again through this blog. When I am done reading the book I will be sure to give a quick synopsis on what I feel like I have learned from this book and let you know what book I will be reading next. As this blog post was written I have not been given any suggestions from you the reader and I would love to get to know more about your spiritual fitness journey by reading books that God has blessed you with. 50 books may seem like a lot of books to some but I fill that with sacrifice and God on my side that it can be done.

My church is currently doing a fast for the next 14 days. While I am fasting and going through my journey with these goals drop some prayer request so that I may pray for the things that you are going through in your life.

A Christian Dad on a Whole New Level!

I had to take a personal break from writing and communicating through my blog. It was hard for me because I had set up Calendar reminders to tell me when to write. I had to take a break because I had lost focus. I don’t feel that I was meeting the intent of what I had originally sought out to meet. Now that we are in a new year I want to bring forth a new focus to the blog. I want to talk to you from a fitness prospective. Now I’m not talking about just physical fitness but spiritual fitness as well. Our families now when we are fit and they know when we are not. So to begin this year I am going to share with you some goals that I plan to complete between now and the end of the year. These goals have spiritual aspiration and physical aspiration. I pray that as you read through what my two main goals are that you will be able to help me complete them as well as join in on the journey of Fitness with me.

My first goal is to read 50 books this year. This is a very attainable task but in order for them to count they have to be Christian/ ministry based. They also can not be assigned by any school that I attend just in case I find myself starting my Masters degree this year. I have already started one it is entitled Being A Disciple: Counting the Real Cost it is written by Kay Arthur, Tom and Jane Hart. It is more of a book set up for a small group bible study but I realize in order to find good text to teach your small groups from you have to first read the lesson yourself. With this goal I would like for you guys to help by recommending books that you think will help me in ministry. In my endeavor to read 50 Christian Books this year I will surely get to them all and if not this year next year I will continue the quest of knowledge and spiritual fitness.

My next goal is for physical fitness. I would not consider myself the most fit person in the world but I am decently fit. I plan to participate this year In three Spartan Races I am already signed up for 2 of them and will sign up for the third after I complete the first ones. I have started a training plan that should help me to be in well enough shape to complete the races respectably. I would like for you as my followers to support me by being encouraging and just sending words of encouragement as I share with you my suck sessions of workouts. To begin the year I did an 8 mile ruck march and did 10 squats every quarter mile for a total of 320 squats. It was a good start to the year and it was very taxing on my body so I know that I have a lot of work to do if I’m going to be in shape enough to complete two races in one weekend.

The Workout map

With proper nutrition and prayer while I workout I feel that my body will be in tip top shape for my upcoming goals. I know that God is preparing me for something great and the only way that I will be able to complete what he has in store is if I go into a time of preparation. I pray that everyone who reads this leaves me a book to read and a prayer to get me through the physical test that God is going to put me through this year.

LONGSUFFERING

Longsuffering/Patience

We are now at the forth Fruit of The Spirit. To me the text seems to come to somewhat of a change of course when it gets to where we are now. The three prior to this one seemed to be more happy characteristics of the Spirit but now we are at one that takes more dedication. We are at the characteristic of “LONGSUFFERING”. In the King James Version of the Bible it is translated this way in most other translations it is simply spoken as patience. I personally don’t feel like patience gives this characteristic its full justice. I think when you use patience you are lessening the characteristic that must be built here. Let me explain why.

Longsuffering here in the text better translated from the Greek means slow tempered or slow to get angry. When I think patience I think about just waiting for something to happen or someone to give something to me. Like I patiently wait for my birthday. When I hear Longsuffering it is different in the sense that I may have to suffer through things that are not pleasant until God finds it pleasing to pull me out of it. It takes more out of you to be slow to anger than it does to just be patient.

Let’s take it to something that men can deal with and understanding Sports. Football season has just started and many of us have been waiting with anticipation for the new season to begin. However, we did not have to seek the face of God daily so that we would have the ability to make it through that endeavor to me that’s patience. On the other hand we are at work and we have this co-worker who just knows how to push all of your buttons. To the point that you sometimes get to the point where you just want to quit. Or you are truly at the point where you have to seek the face of God in order for you to be able to maintain your composure in your work environment; that is longsuffering.

Fathers this is a tough one even for me at times. I have had moments in my marriage and in my raising of my children that I have felt like I am in some longsuffering moments. Moments where I have to seek God and ask him how I am going to make it through this situation with my child. God has put this here in the text for a reason. He wants us to know that even though you may have love, joy and peace you have to have longsuffering to get to the otherside of your spiritual journey. There are going to be trails and tribulations that are going to come up in your life and its going to take every bit of your being to make it through it.

God has placed it in my Spirit to pray as I write this. Everyone who makes it to this point in the article will receive this special blessing. Lord I ask that whomever reads this writing will be granted the ability to be slow to anger. That they will accept the Characteristic of longsuffering so that they will be stronger Christians. That through this walk with Christ even though at times things get tough but you God have placed something special in them that will give them the ability to make it through those tough times. In Jesus Name I Pray Amen.

PEACE

Let’s Talk Peace

In our talks about the different Fruits of The Spirit we have traversed through two and now we are on the third and that is Peace. When it comes to peace it was one that took a hold of me in a special way. This word like the others that we have talked about so far love and joy can have multiple meanings depending on how it is used but lets dig in.

Peace as a word is very important to me because it brings back memories from my childhood. I was a child that use to cry about everything and I mean everything; which is weird because you can’t pay me to cry now. The point though is on my mother’s mom’s side of the family at any funeral that we would attend they would always sing the Hymn “It Is Well” and before they would get to the word Peace in the song I would be in tears like crazy. It however is my mother’s favorite hymn I think to date. For me though I can listen to the same song today and it gives me just what the song says in the first line. It gives me Peace like a river. I have grown to love the song and how it has such a calming effect on things that are going on all around me.

The word Peace also brings me to the verse in Numbers 6:26 that states “The Lord lift up his countenance on you, and give you peace.” I have learned even through this verse that the Lord God we serve has the ability to bring us Peace. We have to have Peace within our lives in order for us to pull all of the other Fruits of The Spirit together. Peace is so important to me I don’t think I could live my life without it. Our homes must have Peace in order for them to function properly.

Fathers what I mean by our homes have to have peace in order for them to function is simple in theory. Without that peace within our homes there would be constant fighting and upheaval at home. When that is introduced instead of peace then we are losing the love and joy from our homes that we have already began to add. Peace allows us to be able to keep the things that have already grounded us into good Christians. We have to have the peace in our lives and on that note I must say PEACE!!!

JOY

Fruit of The Spirit Joy

On today we will talk about the next Fruit of the Spirit. That characteristic for today is Joy. Joy is something that we all want to fill in our lives. We all want a life filled with joy we just don’t know how to get the joy that we are looking for. To give some background on the word joy from our text it is from the Greek word “Chara” it is Strongs #5479. This word was used to express “extended favor”. So how can this help us today?

Like I mentioned before we are all striving for joy. In the book of John we are told that through Love we are able to find joy. “If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
‭‭John‬ ‭15:10-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
So if we can get love in our heart then joy will remain in each and everyone of us. But with Joy things can get so much better.

So I know that someone is probably thinking how can I truly get joy if I am living in so much sin? What’s wonderful about the Word that we read is that before the Fruit of Spirit existed we have words that David wrote in Psalms 51.

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy holy spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭51:10-12‬ ‭KJV‬‬
What this means is that if we have found ourselves in a world of sin we must ask God for forgiveness and he will us joy. Repentance will lead us to our Joy.

Fathers here is how it can help each and everyone of us with repentance we can find joy. With love we can find joy. The Joy that we have within us has the ability to be so great that it can change the way that we live our lives. Let’s Remember to live our lives with Joy involved.

LOVE

LOVE

The Fruit of the Spirit that we are going to talk about today is LOVE. I feel like I have been beating this topic to death. I feel this way because the more I dig into scripture the more it is brought to my attention that this is the same love word used in the book of Deuteronomy. I have written about it in my previous articles about the SHEMA. Now we will go into this love word with a little bit more detail. The word in the original Hebrew language is “Ahavah” Strongs Hebrew 160. It is “Agape” in the Greek Strong Greek 26. These words of Love are important in how we live our lives. We have to be able to show love to God as well as our neighbor.

So Christian Fathers what does this have to do with us. How are we supposed to love both God and our neighbor? Are we supposed to love them equally or are we supposed to love one more than the other. If we look at the Great Commandment in Matthew 22:37-39 it is later explained that they are one in the same. We can not love God without loving our neighbor. If we are failing to love our neighbor or our fellow man then we are failing to love God. We as men have a special responsibility when it comes to love. Love is so important that it is expressed over 200 times in the Bible. It is so important that it is something that God thought it important enough to have us use it to describe so many things that we do.

We have to understand like it was explained in the web videos from the Bible Project that we cannot love “pizza and our wives the same” for if we did then our wife would probably be offended and you would end up on the couch. Yet, for most people pizza is still held in high esteem. I have an even better one for you the love of your wife or football. Many times we get in trouble because we place football over our wives. With the new NFL season starting on tonight many fathers are going to have to choose which love is greater or make a compromise. That is the same place we are when it comes to God. However this is no compromise God has to be our number one love. All the things that we do should point back to the love that we have for God.

For me even when it comes back to me writing this blog it’s shold point back to Christ in all that I do. So back to The Fruits of the Spirit, Love is the first fruit that Paul decides to list in the text because to me that character trait is one that is most important. When you have love you are able to build and truly get to the other Fruits of the Spirit. So fathers explain to me how you feel that love effects you in your every day life. Fathers is love strengthening or hindering your ministry? Is love the core of all of your relationships? On these next couple of days where ever you read this article lets dialogue about LoVE.

Time With The Kiddos

Batman took 9 HRs

I did not post on my normal schedule like I normally do because I spent the entire weekend engulfed with doing things for and with my children. I got so caught up in the moment of exploring their minds that I did not think about putting pen to paper. The time we spent together was far more important than what I could have put here. The joy of seeing my children get to spend quality time with me was something I can take with me for years to come. On this weekend I wanted to practice and live what I preach when it comes to being a Christian Father. Moments that I will remember will also be remembered by my children as something that they got to do with their dad.

So this weekend we spent time building together. I went on Friday and bought two different LEGO sets. I made one set with my little girls and made the other with my older daughter. It was something that was very difficult and time consuming but a great enjoyment. Doing things with your children is a true blessing from God above.

It brings me to the point Proverbs 22:6 “Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it”. Training doesnt just happen with things of the Bible but how you live your Every Day Life!😄

Can You Still Hear His Voice?

Can You Still Here His Voice?

I saw this picture on social media this week and I new it was time for me to touch this subject. This is something that I as a man deal with on a regular basis. It is something that happens in our society a lot because we have so many things that can take our attention. We can have games and television right in our hands anywhere we go. Even right now while I’m writing this my wife is in the room with me and the tv is going. Distractions from our calling are all around us. It is up to us to secure our time with God. We must understand that even now with this digital age that we live in everything can be done at our fingertips. Since that is the case when it comes to our favorite shows on tv then why cant we pause sometimes and take out some time for God? Why can’t we put everything on pause and take some time to read our Bible or pray and meditate unto God.

Just like we see in this cartoon distractions are everywhere but God is still calling for us to hear him. Have you put yourself in a position to maintain your good relationship with the father. Will your distractions get in the way of what God has called you to do in this season? I personally have a desire to be able to hear from my Shepard all of the time. I pray that you will take a look at your distractions and make a move towards God. I Love You and So does the Shepard.

The SHEMA “Reborn”

So the “Shema” came back up in my bible study this week. It has been shown to me this week that it is also a New Testament philosophy. Jesus brought it up as something special that we must also look into. Let’s look up what Jesus said in the book of Mark.

“And one of the scribes came, and having heard them reasoning together, and perceiving that he had answered them well, asked him, Which is the first commandment of all? And Jesus answered him, The first of all the commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices. And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him, Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that durst ask him any question.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭12:28-34‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus saw it has the First Commandment that we should follow. So what does that mean to us today? To me it means that the SHEMA was so important that Jesus himself had to mention it. That it is so important that we as men should understand it and use it in our lives. God gives us tools we have to be willing to use the tools that he is giving us. One of my words of wisdom that I even give to my children is this: “I have the answers to the test why try to figure them out on your own”. I let them know that when they are going through something in life that I have done before. Jesus already knew that the SHEMA was a very important prayer and way of life that is why it is quoted word for word in the New Testament. Let’s go fathers lets dig into our faith.

Media Wants Us to Believe that Heaven is Segregated

Throughout this time we have spent together over the last few months. We have dived into many different subjects. We have talked about some things that have been happening around the world especially when it comes to different social issues. We have briefly talked about some of the riots that have been going on. We have even talked very briefly on why it is that some of them have started in the first place. I want to take a few moments to discuss some of these things that have been going on in the United States. Through this discussion I pray to come to some solutions on why these things may be happening and if we can finally get them to stop.

In the USA many people of color feel as if the white Americans have unwarranted privilege. They feel at times that whites have received special treatment when it comes to jobs, schools, and even crime punishment. It has been seen all over the media when someone of color commits a crime and the book gets thrown at them and then a White person commits the same crime and receives a lesser punishment. It is seen and it is wide spread across the USA. It doesn’t just happen anymore in certain parts of the country but all over. It is something that has caused out roar within the community and it is something that people of color want to see changed. Especially since these are not the only injustices that they see happening in their communities.

People of color are also seeing their fellow brothers and sisters being killed in the streets by people who are supposed to be under the motto to”protect and serve”. Lots of times in America it appears that they do a lot less protection and a lot more serving up bullets. I do feel at times police officers should be able to protect themselves when they feel threatened but when is feeling threatened going to be to much in the USA. How many lives are going to have to be lost for no reason at all before some changes are made. Don’t get me wrong there have been some cops out there that want to do the right things but the media is not portraying those cops. They are only portraying the cops who are doing negative things.

The problem that I see with all of this is that when people have been oppressed for so long when they begin to get power instead of doing good for all they turn in to the oppressor. My prayer for what is going on in the USA is that we are able to find a compromise that allows people of color to feel safe in their own country. I pray that in America that we are able to find solutions that allows us to not just show things over the media that will induce hate and prejudice. I feel that way because we already have enough hate and prejudice in the USA we don’t need the media to ignite the fire.

Christians lets stand up for the social injustice. Since media sits out here and wants us to believe that heaven is going to be segregated and that we are going to spend our eternity only with our own kind. That is is not true and it is causing so much hate within the world. I want people to understand that God called us as Christians to love not to hate our neighbors. How can we do a better job in letting our light shine?

Yours In Christ,

A Christian Dad
